1

Getting Started

You can begin by reaching out through the contact form and sharing a bit about your project: your manuscript type, word count, timeline, and the kind of support you’re looking for. From there, I’ll follow up with any questions and next steps.

I offer a sample edit of up to 1,000 words. This gives you a chance to see how I work and ensures that my approach is a good fit for your voice and goals.

2

Scope & Timeline

To get started, you’ll send your full manuscript as a Word document so I can read through it and get a sense of your project. After reviewing it, I’ll provide a clear outline of the scope of work, along with a timeline and quote.

3

During the Edit

As I work through your manuscript, I keep your voice and intent at the center of every edit. I’ll leave comments where helpful, ask questions when needed, and flag anything that may benefit from your input, so you feel supported and informed throughout the process.

4

Delivery & Follow-Up

When your edit is complete, you’ll receive:

  • A fully edited manuscript with Track Changes

  • A clean version with edits accepted

  • A style sheet (for copyediting projects)

You’re welcome to reach out with any questions about the edit after delivery. My goal is for you to feel confident moving forward with your work.

What to Expect

The Roots of Willow & Word

Smiling woman professional headshot

I’m Erin Kochakji, founder of Willow & Word Editing and a freelance editor with a certificate in copyediting from the University of California, San Diego Extended Studies program.

Before becoming an editor, I spent eight years teaching writing and English at the middle school level in California. During that time, I developed a strong awareness of how vulnerable it can feel to share your writing, and it’s something I bring to every project I take on.

I’m also familiar with the writer’s perspective, having independently published two children’s books. Working with editors on my own writing was incredibly valuable. Having another set of eyes brought clarity to my work, and I appreciated how they used trusted resources to guide the finer details. A professional editor allows writers to stay focused on what matters most: their ideas and the craft of writing.

At the heart of my work is a simple goal: to help writers shape clear, accurate, and consistent writing that preserves the author’s voice and connects with the intended audience. If you have a piece of writing you’d like support with, I’d love to hear about your project.

Tell Me About Your Project

If you’re ready to move forward with your manuscript, I’d love to hear about it. Whether you need line editing, copyediting, or a final proofread, feel free to reach out. I’ll get back to you soon.
